Maryland State Police Investigating Fatal Crash in Prince George’s County

UPDATE: The deceased has been identified as Joshua David Meyer, 40, of Herndon, Virginia.

(OXON HILL, MD) – Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal crash in Prince George’s County this morning.

Troopers from the Forestville Barrack responded to the crash about 3:45 a.m. on northbound Interstate 495 near the Anacostia Freeway. The identity of the deceased is withheld pending next of kin notification.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a Jeep Compass crashed with the rear trailer of a tractor-trailer parked on the left shoulder. The driver of the Jeep was pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency medical services. The tractor-trailer driver declined medical treatment.

The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration assisted with road closures, which lasted for several hours. The Maryland State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division conducted a post-crash inspection of the tractor-trailer.

The Maryland State Police Crash Team is leading the investigation. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
