Maryland State Police Investigating Fatal Pedestrian Crash In Frederick County

(WALKERSVILLE, MD) – Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred early this afternoon in Frederick County that claimed the life of a 15-year-old girl.

The deceased is identified as Nikole Cynthia Morfessis, 15, of Walkersville, Maryland. Morfessis was transported by medevac to Frederick Health Hospital where she was pronounced deceased by hospital personnel.

Shortly after noon today, troopers from the Maryland State Police Frederick Barrack responded to Woodsboro Pike (Route 194) at W. Frederick Street in Walkersville for a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. According to the preliminary investigation, the pedestrian, later identified as Morfessis, was standing on the edge of the roadway on the northbound side.  A tractor-trailer was traveling northbound on Route 194 when investigators believe Morfessis, for reasons unknown at this time, walked into the roadway. She was subsequently struck by the trailer portion of the truck.

The driver of the tractor trailer remained at the scene. Speeding and impaired driving were not factors in this crash. Route 194 was shut down at the scene following the crash.

The crash remains under investigation…
