Maryland State Police Investigate Fatal Pedestrian Crash In Howard County

(Savage, Md.) – Maryland State Police are investigating a pedestrian crash that killed one person early this morning in Howard County.

The victim is identified as Timothy Lewis, 29, of Mount Rainier, Maryland. Lewis was pronounced deceased at the scene by EMS personnel.

Shortly before 1 a.m. this morning, troopers from the Waterloo Barrack responded to I-95 South at Maryland Route 216 for the report of a body lying on the left shoulder. When troopers arrived on the scene, they met the driver of the vehicle involved in the crash, identified as a Volkswagen Jetta. Witnesses of the crash also remained on the scene.

According to a preliminary investigation, the victim was attempting to cross from the right shoulder to the left side of the highway when he was struck by a silver Volkswagen Jetta. The driver of the Jetta remained at the scene. Charges are pending following the completion of the investigation in this case.

Maryland State Police from the Waterloo Barrack responded to investigate the cause of the crash. Maryland Department of Transportation SHA personnel provided assistance with traffic and detours.
