Nearly 89 percent of public schools statewide earned one of the top three star ratings, three percentage points above the 2025 results. Half of all schools earned one of the top two star ratings, up seven percentage points from the prior year.

“This year’s results highlight the ongoing dedication of Maryland educators, students, and school communities,” said Dr. Carey M. Wright, State Superintendent of Schools. “With one in five schools increasing their star rating, we are seeing yet another meaningful indicator of steady, statewide progress. The Maryland School Report Card continues to serve as a critical measure of how well we are supporting every learner, and we remain committed to ensuring that all students have access to high-quality instruction and meaningful opportunities for success.”

“The Maryland School Report Card remains an essential resource for transparency, accountability, and continuous growth,” said Dr. Joshua L. These results demonstrate how schools and districts are engaging with the system to strengthen student experiences and outcomes across the state.”

School star ratings are based on multiple indicators, including non-academic measures. Elementary and middle school indicators are: Academic Achievement, Academic Progress, Progress in Achieving English Language Proficiency, and School Quality and Student Success.

High school indicators are: Academic Achievement, Graduation Rate, Progress in Achieving English Language Proficiency, Readiness for Postsecondary Success, and School Quality and Student Success.
