Wicomico High School Counselors Honored for Excellence in Maryland<\/b><\/h2>\n

BALTIMORE (June 17<\/b>, 2026)<\/b> \u2013 Wicomico High School has been selected as Maryland\u2019s School of Excellence by the American College Application Campaign (ACAC). This recognition honors schools that demonstrate outstanding commitment to supporting students as they plan for and pursue postsecondary pathways.<\/span><\/p>\n

Through this initiative, the school increased the number of students pursuing college, technical training, military service, and other postsecondary opportunities. The school was also recognized for expanding access and support for first\u2011generation college\u2011bound students, advancing the Maryland State Department of Education\u2019s commitment to equitable outcomes across Maryland.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWicomico High School\u2019s counseling team exemplifies the best of Maryland education,\u201d said <\/span>Dr. Carey M. Wright, State Superintendent of Schools<\/b>. \u201cTheir dedication to ensuring every student has a meaningful postsecondary plan reflects our statewide mission to prepare all learners for choice\u2011filled futures. This recognition is a testament to their hard work, creativity, and unwavering commitment to student achievement.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Wicomico High School\u2019s counseling team \u2013 College Counselor Kory Lowe; School Counselors Deb Breeding, Donyelle Cottingham, Kim Hudson, and Dorsey Cook; Career Coach Ryan Mitchell; and Student Advisor Scott Taylor \u2013 was honored for its Maryland Postsecondary Success Campaign, an initiative ensuring that every graduating senior has a clearly defined plan following high school.<\/span><\/p>\n

ACAC named 26 schools nationwide as School of Excellence recipients in recognition of their effort to increase the number of first-generation college students and students from under-resourced communities pursuing a college degree or other higher education credential.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
