154 Maryland Public Schools Earn Green School Honors<\/b><\/h2>\n

BALTIMORE (May 29, 2026)<\/b> \u2013 <\/span>More than 150 schools across 18 local school systems earned the 2026 Maryland Green School designation through the Maryland Association for Environmental and Outdoor Education (MAEOE). The 154 schools join a network of 643 public Maryland Green Schools demonstrating student\u2011driven environmental leadership and schoolwide commitments to sustainable practices.<\/span><\/p>\n

Maryland Green Schools are part of a global community of environmentally focused schools that integrate sustainable operational practices, environmental education, and community engagement.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cMaryland Green Schools show the power of student leadership and hands-on learning in protecting our natural resources,\u201d said <\/span>Dr. Carey M. Wright, State Superintendent of Schools<\/b>. \u201cThese schools are making sustainability a visible, daily practice that strengthens instruction and builds stronger, more resilient communities.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

MAEOE administers the Maryland Green Schools Program, now in its 27th year, which provides the framework and criteria used by schools and centers to document and implement sustainable practices and environmental literacy initiatives. There are 702 Green Schools statewide, including independent schools.<\/span><\/p>\n
