Candidates Announced for State Board of Education Teacher Member Election<\/strong><\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Twenty educators will appear on the ballot for the Nov. 3-17 election.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n

BALTIMORE (October 22, 2025)<\/b> \u2013 <\/span>The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE), in partnership with the State Board of Education, will hold an election from Monday, November 3 to Monday, November 17 to fill the open teacher member seat on the State Board.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Twenty educators are running for the teacher member seat previously held by Rachel McCusker; the four-year term will begin July 1, 2026. <\/span>Candidates must be actively teaching in Maryland schools for at least five years among other eligibility requirements.<\/span><\/p>\n

Voters must hold an active Maryland educator certificate or license with at least one teaching area as of Friday, October 10. By state law, the individual with the most votes will be forwarded to the Governor for appointment to the State Board<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n
