Liu<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a 2025 graduate of Marriotts Ridge High School (Howard County Public School System), and <\/span><b>Luc Beck<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a Bethesda resident from Sidwell Friends School, were recently named <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ed.gov\/about\/news\/press-release\/us-department-of-education-announces-161-students-be-honored-2025-us-presidential-scholars\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">U.S. Presidential Scholars<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by the U.S. Department of Education. Liu now attends Yale University and Beck attends the University of Pennsylvania.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The annual program honors the nation\u2019s top-performing high school students in academics, the arts, and career and technical education fields.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cKelly and Luc exemplify the academic excellence, leadership, and service that define Maryland\u2019s future,\u201d said <\/span><b>Dr. Carey M. Wright, State Superintendent of Schools<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. \u201cTheir recognition as U.S. Presidential Scholars is a testament to their hard work, the dedication of Maryland\u2019s educators, and the support of families and communities. We are proud to celebrate their achievements and look forward to what the future holds for both of them.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They are among the 161 high school seniors nationwide selected for the honor by the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars. Eleven Maryland public and private school students were semifinalists this year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since 1964, the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program has recognized and honored some of the nation\u2019s most distinguished graduating high school seniors.
