MSDE Offers Free Summer Meals to Youth<\/span><\/b><\/h2>\n

Schools, libraries and recreation centers are among the locations offering breakfast and lunch.<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

BALTIMORE, MD (July 12, 2024)<\/span><\/b> \u2013 The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) is offering <\/span>free meals this summer<\/span><\/a> at sites statewide for youth under age 18.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This USDA federally funded program, along with local sponsoring agencies, ensures that students in Maryland receive the necessary nutrition during the summer months. <\/span>Over <\/span>500<\/span>,000<\/span> students<\/span> statewide qualify for the summer meals program.<\/span> <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cMany families rely on the National School Lunch Program to provide healthy and nutritious meals,\u201d <\/span>said<\/span><\/b> Dr. Carey M. Wright, State Superintendent of Schools<\/span><\/b>. \u201cPrograms that provide free meals for Maryland families when school is not in session ensure that students remain ready to learn all year long.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Free meals or snacks are served at participating sites; no ID is <\/span>required<\/span>.<\/span> 800 sites across the state provide meal service in-person and to-go<\/span>, depending on the site<\/span> and location<\/span>.<\/span> Service days and times vary depending on the location.<\/span><\/p>\n

Agencies sponsoring residential camps, closed enrolled sites (such as summer day camps), and pickup meal sites <\/span>will notify participants about the availability of free meals and whether a free meal application is needed.<\/span><\/p>\n
