BALTIMORE \u2013 The Maryland State Board of Education will hold its regular meeting on Tuesday, May 22, at the Maryland State Department of Education, 200 W. Baltimore Street, Baltimore. It will be held in the State Board room on the 7th floor beginning at 9 a.m. <\/p>\n
Items on this month\u2019s regular agenda include the following: <\/p>\n
\tNational Assessment of Educational Progress
\nStaff will brief the State Board on the recently released results of the 2017 National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) tests. NAEP\u2019s latest release involved reading and math at the fourth and eighth grade levels.<\/p>\n
\tEducator Preparation and Certification
\nThe State Board will hear a report on MSDE\u2019s proposed action plan to increase the rigor and accountability of educator certification and teacher preparation programs in Maryland. Work on the plan was launched by Bill 493, approved by the General Assembly in 2016, known as the Teacher Induction, Retention and Incentive Act. <\/p>\n
\tTeachers of the Year
\nThe State Board will recognize Maryland\u2019s newly named 2018-19 local Teachers of the Year.<\/p>\n
\tOnline Learning
\nStaff will provide an overview of the State\u2019s online courses, the process for developing the offerings, and the status of the Maryland Department of Education\u2019s Virtual Online Program.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
