Maryland State Superintendent of Schools Lillian M. Lowery will visit some of the State\u2019s youngest scientists and explorers this Wednesday at the Center for Space Science at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory.<\/p>\n

Middle school students in grades 6-7 are working alongside NASA scientists and engineers at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, learning about the current applications of space technology.\u00a0 The program is one of nine Maryland Summer Center Programs held this year.<\/p>\n

The Summer Centers continue a 48-year commitment at the State level to provide summer educational opportunities for Maryland\u2019s gifted and talented students. The program, coordinated through the Maryland State Department of Education, in partnership with public and nonpublic agencies, provides Maryland\u2019s diverse gifted and talented student population with advanced, rigorous, experiential learning opportunities that nurture these students\u2019 talents and abilities within unique learning environments.<\/p>\n

This Center is graciously hosted and supported by the Johns Hopkins University\u2019s Applied Physics Laboratory and its staff. It is under the direction of Lindsey Jones, a Baltimore County science teacher, and Linda Butler from the JHU-APL.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
