{"id":8163,"date":"2018-04-30T12:41:36","date_gmt":"2018-04-30T16:41:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/msde\/?p=8163"},"modified":"2018-04-30T14:23:52","modified_gmt":"2018-04-30T18:23:52","slug":"maryland-students-recognized-with-top-honors-at-deca-international-career-development-conference-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/msde\/maryland-students-recognized-with-top-honors-at-deca-international-career-development-conference-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Maryland Students Recognized with Top Honors at DECA International Career Development Conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BALTIMORE \u2013 Maryland\u2019s DECA delegation brought home one second place medal along with other top recognitions from the International Career Development Conference (ICDC) and Competition in Atlanta, Georgia, held April 21-24.  DECA is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) education association with the mission to prepare emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management in high schools and colleges around the globe.<\/p>\n<p>More than 120 Maryland students and advisors attended the conference, making this Maryland\u2019s largest delegation ever to attend ICDC. The conference brought together more than 20,000 students and advisors from throughout the United States, and other countries including Canada, China, Korea, India, and Mexico.  The attendees participated in leadership workshops, campaign rallies, regional meetings, and competitive events. <\/p>\n<p>The highest recognition for the Maryland DECA delegation belonged to one student from Walt Whitman High School who placed second (2nd) in their event.
