{"id":5145,"date":"2017-07-07T15:22:59","date_gmt":"2017-07-07T19:22:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/msde\/?p=5145"},"modified":"2017-07-07T15:23:11","modified_gmt":"2017-07-07T19:23:11","slug":"msde-offers-professional-development-events-for-teachers-and-administrators","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/msde\/msde-offers-professional-development-events-for-teachers-and-administrators\/","title":{"rendered":"MSDE Offers Professional Development Events for Teachers and Administrators"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Events Will Be Held During Several Summer Sessions<\/h3>\n<p>BALTIMORE \u2013 The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) will sponsor two Professional Development events for educators this summer including a Teacher Leadership Summit and Pre-K-2nd Grade Educator Symposiums.<\/p>\n<p>The Maryland Teacher Leadership Summit is a two-day summit designed to promote and develop teacher-led initiatives across the state. Modeled after the successful National Teach to Lead Summit, the Maryland event will help to spotlight and support a selective group of teacher-led initiatives across Maryland as well as provide teacher-led teams with hands-on training to refine their program models, identify support, and communicate their initiatives to key stakeholders. The Summit also helps to promote teacher leadership among key local-systems level stakeholders including superintendents, principals and national and local partners engaged to advise and support teacher-led teams to refine innovative proposals and ideas.  The summit will be held for teacher-led teams selected by peers through an application process.<\/p>\n<p>WHEN: July 18-19, 2017<\/p>\n<p>WHERE: Chesapeake Bay Foundation &#8211; Philip Merrill Environmental Center<br \/>\n                  6 Herndon Ave.<br \/>\n                  Annapolis, MD 21403<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, MSDE will sponsor Pre-K-Grade 2 Educator Symposiums which focus on essential practices to support principals and teachers of early learners with research, skills, and strategies to increase student achievement. <\/p>\n<p>The objectives for the two-day symposiums are to explore brain research that is focused on children aged 4-8 in order to understand developmentally appropriate instruction and recognize how developmentally appropriate instruction in Pre-K-2nd Grade students impact future learning. There will be two types of sessions: Pre-K-K and Grades 1st-2nd. Administrators should attend with two Pre-K-Grade 2 educators (this can include a special educator or English learner teacher) and are encouraged to invite an educator from a community-based Pre-K classroom. By attending these symposiums CPD credits can be earned.
