BALTIMORE \u2013 The RAMS Center for Chesapeake Bay Ecosystems Research, the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory Center for Space Science, and the Anne Arundel County Schools Center for Global Languages will begin this month. These programs are the first three of five Maryland Summer Centers for Gifted and Talented Students planned for 2017.<\/p>\n
The 2017 Maryland Summer Centers Program this year will celebrate a 50-year commitment to providing summer educational opportunities for Maryland\u2019s gifted and talented students at the State level. The program was coordinated through the Maryland State Department of Education in partnership with public and nonpublic agencies and provides Maryland\u2019s diverse gifted and talented student population with advanced, rigorous, experiential learning opportunities that nurture their talents and abilities within a unique learning environment. Financial assistance is provided by the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Fund for students who qualify.<\/p>\n
The RAMS Center for Chesapeake Bay Ecosystems Research will allow students to work beside scientists at one of the top marine research facilities in the world to collect and analyze data pertaining to the management of the Chesapeake Bay\u2019s natural resources. The residential program for students entering grades 6-10 will utilize the 850 acre Horn Point Environmental Laboratory on the shores of the Choptank River. The Center is funded by Resource Asset Management Solutions (RAMS) LLC and facilitated by NorthBay Adventures, LLC. Centers are residential.<\/p>\n

The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory Center for Space Science affords middle school students in grades 6-7 to work alongside NASA scientists and engineers learning about the current applications of space technology. This Center is hosted and supported by the Johns Hopkins University\u2019s Applied Physics Laboratory and its staff.<\/p>\n

The Anne Arundel County Schools Center for Global Languages is held in conjunction with the school system\u2019s summer languages program held at Meade Middle School. The Center offers students an in-depth language experience featuring hands-on, engaging cultural experiences. Over the course of two weeks students in grades 4-6 may choose to study one of four languages; Chinese, Arabic, French, or Spanish.<\/p>\n
