BALTIMORE – Governor Larry Hogan has appointed science management and research expert Dr. Rose Maria Li to the Maryland State Board of Education. Dr. Li\u2019s appointment fills the unexpired term of Dr. S. James Gates, who resigned last month. Her term ends June 30, 2017. <\/p>\n
\u201cRose Li has the right combination of experience, knowledge, and dedication to help shape education policy in our state,\u201d said Governor Hogan. \u201cI have every confidence that she will be a strong advocate for the students of Maryland.\u201d<\/p>\n
Dr. Li is president and CEO of Rose Li and Associates (RLA), and has more than 20 years of experience as a health professional with primary experience in demography, economics, and population epidemiology. Prior to founding RLA, Dr. Li held leadership positions at the National Institutes of Health, including work at the National Institute of Aging and the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development.<\/p>\n
Dr. Li has been recognized as an Outstanding Woman in Science by the Maryland State Department of Education and the Maryland Commission for Women. She is active in the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Bethesda-Chevy Chase Chamber of Commerce, the Asian Pacific American Chamber of Commerce, the Parents\u2019 Coalition of Montgomery County, and the Montgomery County Civic Federation.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a real honor, and a responsibility I do not take lightly. I am committed to making sure we do all we can do to help all of our students reach their full potential,\u201d Dr. Li said. <\/p>\n

Dr. Li earned her B.A. and MBA from the University of Chicago and her Ph.D. from Princeton University in Public and International Affairs, with a concentration in public policy. While obtaining her Ph.D., Dr. Li completed a National Institutes of Health Traineeship in Demography. She completed postdoctoral research on aging in Asia through the University of Michigan.
