{"id":2663,"date":"2016-06-01T15:31:56","date_gmt":"2016-06-01T19:31:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/msde\/?p=2663"},"modified":"2016-06-02T08:42:24","modified_gmt":"2016-06-02T12:42:24","slug":"boost-scholarship-program-now-accepting-applications-for-fall","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/msde\/boost-scholarship-program-now-accepting-applications-for-fall\/","title":{"rendered":"BOOST Scholarship Program Now Accepting Applications For Fall"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><em>Provides Financial Aid To Attend Nonpublic Schools<\/em><\/h3>\n<p>For Immediate Release \u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Contact: Bill Reinhard, 410-767-0486<\/p>\n<p>Baltimore, MD<\/p>\n<p>The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) today announced applications are now online to apply for a new scholarship program designed to help income eligible students attend nonpublic schools.<\/p>\n<p>The Broadening Options and Opportunities for Students Today (BOOST) Program, which was supported and signed into law by Governor Larry Hogan this past legislative session, will provide a limited number of scholarships for students who are eligible for the free- or reduced-price lunch program.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery child deserves access to a world-class education,\u201d said Governor Hogan. \u201cOur administration is proud to support a program that is a much-needed step in the right direction to provide expanded opportunities for students across the state.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The application deadline is Monday, July 11, 2016.\u00a0 A list of potential participating schools is available by <a href=\"http:\/\/marylandpublicschools.org\/boost\/docs\/BOOSTPotentialSchools.pdf\">following this link<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The BOOST program is available for students either already attending or hoping to attend one of the participating schools. \u00a0Students must be enrolled in \u2013 or have applied to a potential participating school \u2013 before completing the BOOST application. Nearly $5 million in scholarship funds are available for kindergarten through 12th grade.<\/p>\n<p>All applications will be reviewed by MSDE to ensure completion. MSDE will then compile a list of applicants that ranks eligible students by family income expressed as a percent of the most recent federal poverty levels.
