The Maryland State Department of Education\u2019s Divisions of Career and College Readiness and Library Development and Services along with Talbot County Public Schools and Talbot County Free Library today unveiled a new public awareness campaign focusing on Career and Technology Education (CTE).<\/p>\n

The campaign kicked-off at the Easton Branch of the Talbot County Free Library in Easton, Maryland.\u00a0 The event spotlighted presentations by Talbot County Career and Technology Education students.<\/p>\n

Today\u2019s event will be followed by a series of presentations highlighting the CTE programs offered in Talbot County Public Schools.\u00a0 The presentations will take place in January of 2015 at the Easton and St. Michael\u2019s branches and will feature Career and Technology Education student presentations and demonstrations.<\/p>\n

\u201cCareer and Technology Education and libraries are wonderful resources for students and exemplify the model of collaboration at both the state and local levels,\u201d said Dr. Lillian Lowery, State Superintendent of Schools. \u201cThis public awareness campaign will allow parents, students, and the community to learn more about Talbot County Public School\u2019s system of Career and Technology Education through their local public libraries.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are thrilled to be partnering with the Talbot County Free Library to highlight the importance of Career and Technology Education and to share with the community the wonderful opportunities these programs offer students,\u201d \u00a0said Kelly Griffith, Talbot County Public Schools Superintendent.<\/p>\n

Talbot County Public Schools offer 13 career and technology education programs of study at its two high schools \u2013 Easton High School and St. Michael\u2019s Middle\/High School. Programs are offered in the following career areas: Arts, Media and Communication, Business, Management and Finance; Construction and Development; Consumer Services, Hospitality, and Tourism; Environmental, Agriculture and Natural Resources; Health and Biosciences; Human Resource Services; Manufacturing, Engineering, and Technology; and Transportation Technologies.\u00a0 Across the state, CTE programs provide opportunities for students to actively learn about careers and prepare for successful futures.\u00a0 In FY 2013, over half (58%) of all secondary CTE graduates met the requirements for entry into both college and careers.<\/p>\n
