The Maryland State Board of Education will hold its regular meeting on Friday, February 11<\/strong>, at the Maryland State Department of Education, 200 W. Baltimore Street, Baltimore. It will be held in the State Board room on the 7th floor beginning at 9 a.m.<\/p>\n

In addition, the State Board has scheduled a separate information session on Thursday, February 11<\/strong>.\u00a0 It also will take place in the State Board room, beginning at 8:30 a.m.\u00a0 The is not a full board meeting and no votes are scheduled.\u00a0 The two meetings had originally been planned for Monday, January 25 and Tuesday, January 26, but the massive weekend snow storm postponed the meeting.<\/p>\n

Items on the agendas of the two meetings include the following:<\/p>\n

Thursday, February 11<\/u><\/strong>
\n8:30 a.m.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Work Session<\/strong>
\nThe State Board will listen to an overview of the Maryland legislative process, followed by a discussion of the intersection of laws and regulations governing Maryland public education and the Elementary and Secondary Education Act\/ Every Student Succeeds Act (9:15 a.m.) and an overview of the Division of Rehabilitation Services (10 a.m.)<\/p>\n

Friday, February 12<\/u><\/strong>
\n9:10 a.m.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Graduation Rates <\/strong>
\nThe State Board will hear a report on the 2015 high school cohort graduation rates, as well as the cohort dropout rates.<\/p>\n

10:20 a.m.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 State Superintendent Search<\/strong>
\nSearch firm Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates will provide an update on the search, including information gathered during the recent public forums and through a survey.<\/u><\/p>\n

2:40\u00a0p.m.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Science Education<\/strong>
\nThe State Board will hear a report on Maryland\u2019s implementation of the Next Generation Science Standards, adopted by the Board in 2013, as well as plans for new assessments aligned to the learning standards.<\/p>\n
