{"id":1644,"date":"2014-07-24T09:51:07","date_gmt":"2014-07-24T13:51:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/msde\/?p=1644"},"modified":"2015-12-29T09:52:44","modified_gmt":"2015-12-29T14:52:44","slug":"dr-charlene-dukes-re-elected-state-board-president","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/msde\/dr-charlene-dukes-re-elected-state-board-president\/","title":{"rendered":"Dr. Charlene Dukes Re-Elected State Board President"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><em>Dr. Mary Kay Finan Re-Elected Vice President<\/em><\/h3>\n<p>For Immediate Release \u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Contact: John L.White, 410-767-0439<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Maryland State Board of Education announced today that it unanimously re-elected Dr. Charlene Dukes as its president and Dr. Mary Kay Finan as vice president earlier this week at its monthly meeting.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Dukes has served as State Board President for the past two years, having earlier served three years as vice president.\u00a0 She is president of Prince George\u2019s Community College and has had 30 years of progressive leadership experience and administrative responsibility in higher education.\u00a0 She has represented the State Board on the Governor\u2019s P-20 Council, and previously served on the Task Force to Study <em>How to Improve Financial Literacy<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>From 2002-2006, she served on the Prince George\u2019s County Appointed Board of Education, and chaired the Student Support, Student Appeals, and Personnel Committees.\u00a0 Dr. Dukes holds membership in a variety of professional organizations, including the American Association of Community Colleges, the Association of American Colleges and Universities, the American Council on Education, the Presidents\u2019 Round Table, and the National Council on Black American Affairs.\u00a0 Locally, Dr. Dukes is a member of the Prince George\u2019s County Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Prince George\u2019s County Business Roundtable, the Workforce Services Corporation, and the Harlem Renaissance Foundation.\u00a0 Dr. Dukes has a bachelor\u2019s degree in secondary education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and a master\u2019s and doctorate in Administrative and Policy Studies from the University of Pittsburgh.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Finan is a Professor Emeritus of Frostburg State University where she was on the Education faculty from 1991 &#8211;
