{"id":1634,"date":"2014-07-30T08:00:13","date_gmt":"2014-07-30T12:00:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/msde\/?p=1634"},"modified":"2015-12-29T08:01:51","modified_gmt":"2015-12-29T13:01:51","slug":"states-first-promising-principals-academy-held-in-calvert-county","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/msde\/states-first-promising-principals-academy-held-in-calvert-county\/","title":{"rendered":"State&#8217;s First Promising Principals Academy Held In Calvert County"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><em>Emerging Leaders From Across Maryland Spend Three Days In Intensive Professional Development<\/em><\/h3>\n<p>For Immediate Release \u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Contact: Bill Reinhard, 410-767-0486<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A new generation of Maryland school leaders converged on Solomons Island this week for the first Governor\u2019s Promising Principals Academy.<\/p>\n<p>The Academy was a unique effort by the Maryland State Department of Education to prepare a new cadre of principals.\u00a0 Research has repeatedly shown that an effective principal is the key to a successful school.\u00a0 Governor Martin O&#8217;Malley has challenged Maryland to create a pipeline to identify, nurture, and support the development of great principals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaryland public schools lead the nation in large part because of the outstanding educators who lead our schools,\u201d Governor O\u2019Malley said.\u00a0 \u201cWe need to train and support these women and men who guide the preparation of our State\u2019s most precious natural resource: our children.\u00a0 Strong school leaders provide the cornerstone of an educational system that develops college and career-ready graduates.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Two participants from each of Maryland\u2019s 24 local school systems have been taking part in the Academy.\u00a0 Participants were nominated by their local superintendent based on their interest, current position, and leadership potential.\u00a0 The summer conference\u2014aligned to principal evaluation standards\u2014is the first time the entire cohort of promising principals has gathered as a whole.<\/p>\n<p>State Superintendent of Schools Lillian M.
