{"id":1478,"date":"2014-11-07T09:05:23","date_gmt":"2014-11-07T14:05:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/msde\/?p=1478"},"modified":"2015-12-15T09:31:46","modified_gmt":"2015-12-15T14:31:46","slug":"board-members-association-official-taking-part-in-maryland-college-application-campaign","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/msde\/board-members-association-official-taking-part-in-maryland-college-application-campaign\/","title":{"rendered":"Board Members, Association Official Taking Part In Maryland College Application Campaign"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><em><strong>First MCAC Effort Set For Nov. 10-14<\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n<p>For Immediate Release \u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Contact: Bill Reinhard, 410-767-0486<\/p>\n<p>Several members of the Maryland State Board of Education will be visiting high schools next week as the first <a title=\"Maryland College Admission Campaign\" href=\"http:\/\/marylandpublicschools.org\/mdcac\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">Maryland College Admission Campaign (MCAC)<\/a> takes place.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, an official from the American Council on Education (ACE)\u2014the organization sponsoring the American College Admission Campaign\u2014will make a visit for a Maryland high school participating in the effort. \u00a0MCAC will take place November 10-14, with 21 high schools in seven participating school systems.<\/p>\n<p>The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) and the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) have teamed up with ACE to create the first MCAC to increase the number of students applying and gaining acceptance to college.\u00a0 ACE spearheads the national effort to help students and their families navigate the college application process, increasing the number of students applying to college early in their senior year\u2014particularly from those who would be the first members of their families to pursue higher education.<\/p>\n<p>The visits are as follows:<\/p>\n<p><strong>November 11<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li><strong>Board member Madhu Sidhu<\/strong> will visit North East High School in Cecil County at 8 a.m.<br \/>\nNorth East High is at 300 Irishtown Road, North East, MD 21901.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ms. Sidhu <\/strong>also will visit Rising Sun High School in Cecil County at 10 a.m.<br \/>\nRising Sun High is at 100 Tiger Drive, North East, MD 21901.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>November 12<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li><strong>Melissa Caperton, Senior Associate, ACE, <\/strong>\u00a0will visit North East High School at 8 a.m.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Board President Charlene Dukes, president of Prince George\u2019s Community College, <\/strong>will visit Central High School in Prince George\u2019s County at 9 a.m.<br \/>\nCentral is at 200 Cabin Branch Road, Capitol Heights, MD\u00a0 20743.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Board member Linda Eberhart<\/strong> will visit Reginald F.
