The Maryland State Board of Education will hold its regular meeting on Tuesday, March 24<\/strong>, at the Maryland State Department of Education, 200 W. Baltimore Street, Baltimore. \nThe State Board is scheduled to act on MSDE\u2019s plans to request an extension of the State\u2019s flexibility waiver from the U.S. Department of Education.\u00a0 Federal officials granted Maryland a waiver in July 2014, allowing the State to move forward with reforms designed to improve student learning and classroom instruction.\u00a0 The extension would maintain the waiver status through the current school year.\u00a0 MSDE\u2019s plan was published for public comment in February, and revisions to the original draft were made.<\/p>\n
\nThe State Board will hear a report about the Wellness Policies and Practices
\nEvaluation Project, conducted recently by the University of Maryland, School of Medicine.\u00a0 The project evaluated the strength and comprehensiveness of written wellness policies among school systems and schools in the State.<\/p>\n
