{"id":1304,"date":"2015-03-31T12:07:54","date_gmt":"2015-03-31T16:07:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/msde\/?p=1304"},"modified":"2015-12-09T12:14:27","modified_gmt":"2015-12-09T17:14:27","slug":"candidates-sought-for-baltimore-city-board-of-school-commissioners","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/msde\/candidates-sought-for-baltimore-city-board-of-school-commissioners\/","title":{"rendered":"Candidates Sought For Baltimore City Board Of School Commissioners"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"center\"><strong><u>RECRUITMENT<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><strong>Candidates Sought For<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Baltimore City Board Of School Commissioners<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Maryland State Board of Education is reopening its search for candidates to serve on the Baltimore City Board of School Commissioners.\u00a0 The Baltimore City Board of School Commissioners is responsible for raising the level of academic achievement of the students in the Baltimore City Public School System, improving the management and administration of the city\u2019s public school system, and is held accountable for the academic achievement of the public school students in Baltimore City.\u00a0 Regular public meetings of the Board are held on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month.\u00a0 Commissioners are appointed for three year terms of office and receive no financial compensation for their service on the Board.<\/p>\n<p>To be eligible for appointment, candidates must be residents of Baltimore City and be at least 18 years old.\u00a0 In addition to these requirements, it is highly desirable that candidates possess one or more of the following qualifications:<\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Possess a high level of knowledge and expertise concerning the successful administration of a large business, non-profit, or governmental entity and have served in a high level management position within such an entity.<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Possess a high level of knowledge and expertise concerning education.<\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Have a child enrolled in the Baltimore City Public Schools as of the date of appointment.<\/p>\n<p>4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Possess knowledge or experience in the education of children with disabilities.\u00a0 This knowledge or experience may be derived from being a parent of a child with a disability.<\/p>\n<p>To apply, interested individuals must submit the following information to the Maryland State Board of Education by 5:00 p.m. Thursday, April 30, 2015:<\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0A letter expressing the applicant\u2019s desire and willingness to serve on the Baltimore City Board of School Commissioners and indicating the strengths that the applicant would bring to the City Board;<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0A brief record of the applicant\u2019s personal history and experience which highlights any of the above listed qualifications possessed by the applicant;<\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Proof of Baltimore City residency (Provide 2 of the following: a copy of the applicant&#8217;s driver&#8217;s license; voter registration card; utility bill; rent receipt; or verifiable lease agreement.)<\/p>\n<p>4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The names, addresses, and phone numbers of three references.<\/p>\n<p>This information can be mailed, e-mailed, faxed or hand delivered to:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">Maryland State Board of Education<br \/>\nAttn:\u00a0\u00a0 Anthony L. South<br \/>\n200 West Baltimore Street<br \/>\nBaltimore, MD 21201-2595<br \/>\nFax (410) 333-2226<br \/>\n<a href=\"mailto:tony.south@maryland.gov\">tony.south@maryland.gov<\/a><\/p>\n<p>An application shall have been deemed to have been transmitted by the prescribed deadline if all required information has been delivered by fax, e-mail, or by hand to the State Board or deposited in the United States mail, as registered or certified mail, by 5:00 p.m., Thursday, April 30, 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Once the deadline for submissions has passed, the Board will review all applications.\u00a0 Applicants will be notified concerning the status of their applications and subsequent steps in the State Board\u2019s recruitment effort.
