BALTIMORE \u2013 The Maryland Center for School Safety (MCSS) will hold its 2018 School Safety Summer Conference August 13-14 in Annapolis. This two-day conference will feature presentations, discussions and experiences focused on improving school safety.<\/p>\n
Throughout the conference various National and Local school safety experts will present policies, procedures and experiences in managing an emergency situation in a school setting. A special emphasis will be placed on lessons learned from past emergencies and current safety legislation and initiatives. <\/p>\n

\n8 a.m.: Welcoming Remarks with Dr. Karen Salmon, State Superintendent of Schools- Presentation of Colors, National Anthem, and Pledge of Allegiance. <\/p>\n
8:45 a.m.: Maryland Safe to Learn Act of 2018 Overview- an overview presentation of Maryland\u2019s new school safety legislation, presented by Ed Clarke, Executive Director of MCSS. <\/p>\n
10 a.m.: Tragedy at Great Mills High School and Lessons Learned \u2013 St. Mary\u2019s County School Superintendent, Dr. J. Scott Smith, along with other key administrative and safety experts review the recent tragedy at Great Mills High School and lessons learned. <\/p>\n
DAY 2:<\/p>\n
8:15 a.m.: A Tragedy Averted at Catoctin High School- School safety and administrative staff review the prevention of a tragedy at Catoctin High School, located in Frederick County. <\/p>\n
12:30 p.m.: Roundtable: The Role of Media, School Safety and Law Enforcement in a Critical School Safety Incident \u2013 A roundtable discussion of internal and external factors and their effects on emergency situations. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
