BALTIMORE (July 20, 2018) \u2013 The Maryland State Board of Education will hold its regular meeting on Tuesday, July 24 at the Maryland State Department of Education, 200 W. Baltimore Street, Baltimore. The meeting will be held in the State Board room on the 7th floor beginning at 9 a.m. Items on this month\u2019s regular agenda include the following: <\/p>\n
The State Board will elect its President and Vice President for 2018-19. The election will follow a brief executive session.<\/p>\n
Staff will brief the State Board on portions of Maryland\u2019s ESSA plan, focusing on the how MSDE will incorporate equity into the accountability plan. All student group performance will be reported in the State\u2019s report cards and the performance of all groups will be used to determine Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI) and Targeted Support and Improvement (TSI) schools.<\/p>\n
Staff will provide an update of the Lead Higher Initiative, designed to close equity gaps for economically disadvantaged students and students of color in Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) programs. <\/p>\n
The State Board will hear an overview on the Maryland Safe to Learn Act of 2018, passed by the General Assembly in April and signed into law by Governor Hogan. The legislation created a variety of State standards and guidelines, intending to keep students safe from harm while attending school.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
