MSDE Focuses on School Improvement and Preparing Future Principals

Statewide Professional Learning Opportunities Held in Baltimore

 

BALTIMORE  – The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) will convene current and future school leaders as part of the Leading for School Improvement Institute and Promising Principals’ Academy. Participants of these programs will engage in professional learning experiences aimed at improving student performance and successfully preparing future school principals.

WHAT:

Leading for School Improvement

The Leading for School Improvement Institute provides support to school leadership teams with the goal of improving overall school performance. Principals and school leaders will engage in a year-long professional learning experience based on effective practices for school improvement. Participants will work with leadership coaches to learn customized ways to improve student performance. In total 94 principals have been invited to participate.

Promising Principals’ Academy

The Promising Principals’ Academy is designed to equip participants with the skills and knowledge needed to successfully transition into the role of principal. Several cohorts of promising principals are paired with a former principal who serves as a coach. Upon successful completion of this learning experience, participants will be prepared to transition into and take on the role of principal; a total of 52 future principals will participate.
