MSDE Announcement: Maryland High School Graduation Task Force to Meet on January 19

The Maryland High School Graduation Task Force will hold its first meeting on Friday, January 19 at the Maryland Department of Transportation, 7201 Corporate Center Drive, Hanover. The meeting will begin at 9 a.m.

The Task Force, commissioned by Dr. Karen Salmon, State Superintendent of Schools, is co-chaired by Dr. Carol Williamson, Deputy State Superintendent for Teaching and Learning, and Dr. Dara Shaw, Executive Director for Research and Strategic Data Use for the Maryland State Department of Education.

The Task Force is charged with studying and making recommendations on:

• Current credit requirements for obtaining a Maryland High School Diploma; making recommendations for the minimum number of credits to be required.

• Options for awarding high school diplomas.

• Assessment requirements for high school graduation.

In addition, the Task Force will consider existing Maryland statute and policy recommendations generated by the Maryland Commission on Innovation and Excellence in Education.

The second meeting is scheduled for Friday, January 26 at the same location, and will be held biweekly each Friday thereafter through June 2018. All Task Force meetings will begin at 9 a.m.
