Maryland State Board of Education to Meet on Tuesday, September 27

Work Session Set for Monday, September 26

 

BALTIMORE  – The Maryland State Board of Education will hold its regular meeting on Tuesday, September 27, at the Maryland State Department of Education, 200 W. Baltimore Street, Baltimore. It will be held in the State Board room on the 7th floor beginning at 9 a.m.

 

Items on this month’s regular meeting agenda on Tuesday include the following:

 

9:05 a.m.         PARCC Assessment

MSDE staff will review and analyze the data from the 2016 administration of the Partnership for the Assessment of Readiness for College and Career (PARCC) tests.  MSDE will be releasing State, district, and school level data from the2015-16 administration.

 

11:10 a.m.       ESSA Accountability Plan

The State Board will continue its discussion of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Accountability Plan, currently under development.  Board members will be joined by Dr. David Steiner, Executive Director of the Johns Hopkins University Institute for Education Policy.

 

1:45 p.m.         Gifted Education

Board members will recognize schools that have been designated as 2015 Excellence in Gifted and Talented Education (EGATE) schools.

 

The Board also has scheduled a work session on Monday, September 26, to continue its discussion on the final report of the Commission to Review Maryland’s Use of Assessments and Testing in Public Schools.  They also plan to discuss the Every Student Succeeds Act with representatives from the Maryland State Education Association.  That session will get underway at 10 a.m. in Conference Room 6 on the 8th floor.
