Maryland State Board of Education to Meet on Tuesday, September 24

BALTIMORE – The Maryland State Board of Education will hold its regular meeting on Tuesday, September 24, at the Maryland State Department of Education, 200 W. Baltimore Street, Baltimore.  The meeting will be held in the State Board room on the 7th floor, beginning at 9 a.m.

Items on this month’s regular agenda include (times approximate):

10:25 a.m.       Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP)

The State Board will receive updates and additional results from the 2019 Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program, as well as the results of continued data analysis at the school and school system level.

11:45 a.m.       Digital Learning Workgroup Report

An overview of research that was conducted on student online learning opportunities   will be presented to the State Board. The Digital Learning workgroup works in conjunction with MSDE’s Virtual Online Program to examine online learning in order to meet the needs of Maryland students.

2:00 p.m.         Maryland’s Response to the Heroin and Opioid Epidemic    

The State Board will be briefed on Maryland’s efforts to address the heroin and opioid crisis. As part of Governor Hogan’s Heroin and Opioid Initiative, the Opioid Operational Command Center (OOCC) works with MSDE and other state, federal, and local organizations to combat the rising use of heroin and opioids in the state.
