Maryland State Board of Education to Meet on Tuesday, March 26

BALTIMORE  – The Maryland State Board of Education will hold its regular meeting on Tuesday, March 26, at the Maryland State Department of Education, 200 W. Baltimore Street, Baltimore.  The meeting will be held in the State Board room on the 7th floor, beginning at 9 a.m.

Items on this month’s regular agenda include (times approximate):

9:40 a.m.         Educator Certification

The State Board will consider the educator licenses—formerly referred to as certificate types—that will be available to Maryland educators. Included in this discussion will be educator license progression and the renewal requirements for each license.

11:20 a.m.       Teacher Evaluation

The State Board will hear a report on the status of improvements to the State’s default model for teacher evaluations. State law requires that all teachers be evaluated annually using either the State model or an approved locally developed program. An Evaluation Improvement Workgroup convened last September to consider enhancements to the State model.

3:45 p.m.         Early Intervention/Special Education Services

Marcella Franczkowski, Assistant State Superintendent for the Division of Early Intervention/Special Education Services, will provide the State Board with a progress report on MSDE’s implementation of the Division’s strategic plan, “Moving Maryland Forward: Sharpen the Focus for 2020.”  The plan has guided the State’s work for two years, producing promising results.
