Maryland State Board of Education to Meet on Tuesday, February 26

BALTIMORE – The Maryland State Board of Education will hold its regular meeting on Tuesday, February 26 at the Maryland State Department of Education, 200 W. Baltimore Street, Baltimore. The meeting will be held in the State Board room on the 7th floor beginning at 9 a.m. Items on this month’s regular agenda include the following (times approximate):

9:40 a.m. Milken Award Recipient

The State Board will honor Brian Quinn, a fourth grade math teacher at Montgomery County’s East Silver Spring Elementary School. Quinn last November was named Maryland’s 2018-19 Milken National Educator, an award that carries with it an unrestricted $25,000 cash prize.

10 a.m. Every Student Succeeds Act

The State Board will review Maryland’s progress in complying with the requirements of the federal ESSA law, and will review and analyze the results published on the Maryland Report Card.

11:15 a.m. Teacher Certification

The State Board will review the current out-of-state pathways leading to a Maryland certificate and consider possible changes.

3:20 p.m. Advanced Placement

Maryland’s graduating seniors set another new record for Advanced Placement (AP) success in 2018. The State Board will hear a report analyzing last year’s AP test results.
