Maryland State Board of Education to Meet on Tuesday, August 28

BALTIMORE (August 23, 2018) – The Maryland State Board of Education will hold its regular meeting on Tuesday, August 28 at the Maryland State Department of Education, 200 W. Baltimore Street, Baltimore. The meeting will be held in the State Board room on the 7th floor beginning at
9 a.m. Items on this month’s regular agenda include the following:

10:30 a.m. 2018 Maryland State Assessment Results

The State Board will hear a report on the results of the 2018 administration of the Partnership for Assessment of College and Career (PARCC) tests.

3:00 p.m. ESSA Update

Staff will brief the State Board on portions of Maryland’s ESSA plan, focusing on the new accountability system.

4:00 p.m. Early Childhood Learning

Dr. Christy Tirrell-Corbin, executive director of the Center for Early Childhood Education (CECEI) at the University of Maryland, will provide an overview and introduction to “Children Study Their World: A Curriculum for Four-Year-Old Children.” The curriculum is the result of a grant MSDE awarded to CECEI to develop an evidence-based high-quality, digital curriculum for Pre-K children throughout the State.
