Maryland State Board of Education to Meet Tuesday, March 24
BALTIMORE (March 20, 2026) – The Maryland State Board of Education will meet on Tuesday, March 24, at 9 a.m. at the Nancy S. Grasmick State Education Building, 200 W. Baltimore St., in the Board Room (7th floor).
During the meeting, the State Board will consider calendar modification requests from local school systems for the current school year. Updates will be provided on comprehensive math plans, the 2026 legislative session and student service learning hour requirements.
In honor of National Reading Month, the State Board will recognize five schools for demonstrating a strong commitment to high-quality literacy instruction. These schools had exceptional participation in the SUNY New Paltz Science of Reading microcredential course, with more than 70 percent of staff completing the training and earning a passing rate of 70 percent or more.
In addition, there will be a stakeholder engagement session with Arts Education in Maryland Schools.
Public Comment
The State Board welcomes public comment both in person and virtually during meetings. Registration is limited to 15 individuals on a first-come, first-served basis. Up to 10 individuals are welcome in the morning and five in the afternoon. Once the maximum number is reached, additional individuals may be placed on a waiting list.
Registration for public comment closes on Friday, March 20 at 11:59 p.m. Interested individuals can register by completing this online form. Confirmed registrants for public comment will be notified. Comments are limited to three minutes for each speaker and monitored by staff.
