{"id":6266,"date":"2024-11-04T09:50:54","date_gmt":"2024-11-04T14:50:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/mea\/?p=6266"},"modified":"2024-11-04T09:55:54","modified_gmt":"2024-11-04T14:55:54","slug":"maryland-launches-new-program-to-expand-use-of-solar-on-commercial-buildings-in-underserved-communities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/mea\/2024\/11\/04\/maryland-launches-new-program-to-expand-use-of-solar-on-commercial-buildings-in-underserved-communities\/","title":{"rendered":"Maryland Launches New Program to Expand Use of Solar on Commercial Buildings in Underserved Communities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE<\/p>\n<p>Contact:\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:timothy.zink@maryland.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tim Zink<\/a>\u00a0| 443-758-7344<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Maryland Energy Administration\u2019s new grant program focuses on expanding solar power on buildings that benefit low- to moderate-income Marylanders, overburdened neighborhoods<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">BALTIMORE \u2013 The Maryland Energy Administration today announced the opening of the new Fiscal Year 2025 (FY25) <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/energy.maryland.gov\/business\/Pages\/Commercial-Solar.aspx\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Commercial Solar Grant Program<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, which offers major incentives to Maryland businesses and organizations to help pay the costs of solar energy systems that benefit Maryland\u2019s low-to-moderate income, overburdened and underserved communities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThe agency developed the Commercial Solar Grant Program to promote equitable access to commercial-scale solar systems through more meaningful and focused incentives,\u201d <\/span><b>said Maryland Energy Administration Director Paul G. Pinsky.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u201cThe Commercial Solar Grant Program promotes partnerships with companies and groups led by minorities, veterans and people with disabilities to ensure strong and lasting community benefits.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The FY25 Commercial Solar Program has a budget of $5 million. Enhanced incentives are available for the installation of solar photovoltaic systems by nonprofit organizations; Small Business Enterprises; Minority Business Enterprises;\u00a0 Disadvantaged Business Enterprises; Airport Concessions Disadvantaged Business Enterprises; and Veteran- and Disabled Veteran-owned businesses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Grants also are available for businesses and other organizations with substantial energy needs that can benefit from larger-scale solar installations that reduce their energy costs and improve sustainability of their operations.\u200b<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Helping Maryland\u2019s communities and the organizations that serve them become more sustainable is key to helping meet our clean energy and greenhouse gas reduction goals, and to help ensure that no Marylander is left behind in the process.
