The project aims to address the public\u2019s lack of awareness and education about offshore wind.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: Arial;color: #000000;font-weight: 400\">Governor Moore discussed <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/governor.maryland.gov\/press\/pages\/Governor-Moore-Announces-Major-Offshore-Wind-Energy-Initiatives-During-International-Forum-in-Baltimore.aspx\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: Arial;color: #1155cc;font-weight: 400\">this announcement and other offshore wind energy initiatives<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: Arial;color: #000000;font-weight: 400\"> at the International Offshore Wind Partnering Forum. To move Maryland forward in its clean energy goals, the governor further outlined MEA\u2019s focus on funding those projects that will advance offshore wind and prioritize wind energy partnerships.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: Arial;color: #000000;font-weight: 400\">\u201cMEA\u2019s Open program continues to foster new and unique ideas to Maryland\u2019s clean energy landscape,\u201d said Paul Pinsky, Director of the Maryland Energy Administration. \u201cWith partners like the Business Network for Offshore Wind, we can further educate and showcase the benefits of the Offshore Wind Market.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: Arial;color: #000000;font-weight: 400\">The primary audience for this project will be school-aged children from elementary through high school and will educate the public using a variety of programming catered to all ages, educational levels, and abilities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: Arial;color: #000000;font-weight: 400\">This project will also work with partners in Maryland that include the Maryland Institute College of Arts Center for Social Design, the National Aquarium in Baltimore, U.S. Wind, and \u00d8rsted to successfully design, implement and integrate the Hub into school programs, such as Career and Technical Education (CTE) and field trips. The physical center will contain educational and interactive exhibits in the areas of economic benefits, workforce development, physics and engineering, earth science, and environmental\u00a0 and wildlife science. Programming and education will be open to all communities to break traditional barriers to education, such as income levels.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: Arial;color: #000000;font-weight: 400\">\u201cFor years, the Network has envisioned bringing this education center to Maryland in order to connect with the public about the offshore wind industry\u2019s benefits to the State of Maryland and its economy,\u201d said Liz Burdock, President and CEO of the Business Network for Offshore Wind.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: Arial;color: #000000;font-weight: 400\">\u201cWith Maryland Energy Administration&#8217;s support, and the help of our valued partners, we will make that dream a reality. This education center can build the public\u2019s trust in offshore wind, open new doors of opportunities for businesses, and lay the groundwork for developing the next generation workforce and connecting them with well-paying jobs.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: Arial;color: #000000;font-weight: 400\">The MEA Open Energy Grant Program was created to provide funding opportunities to projects that support Maryland\u2019s ongoing effort to promote affordable, reliable, resilient, and clean energy, but fall outside of MEA\u2019s current grant program portfolio.
