{"id":5837,"date":"2022-03-15T09:00:00","date_gmt":"2022-03-15T13:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/mea\/?p=5837"},"modified":"2022-03-22T09:07:05","modified_gmt":"2022-03-22T13:07:05","slug":"maryland-awards-nearly-2-million-in-clean-fuels-incentive-program-grants","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/mea\/2022\/03\/15\/maryland-awards-nearly-2-million-in-clean-fuels-incentive-program-grants\/","title":{"rendered":"Maryland Awards Nearly $2 Million in Clean Fuels Incentive Program Grants"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n<p>FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE<br \/>Contact:\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:jahmai.sharp-moore@maryland.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jahmai Sharp-Moore<\/a> | 443-694-3651<\/p>\n<p><b>Baltimore &#8211; <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Maryland Energy Administration (MEA) is pleased to announce eight awards totaling $1.9 million in funding under the fir<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">st round of the Fiscal Year 2022 (FY22) <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/energy.maryland.gov\/transportation\/Pages\/Clean-Fuels-Incentive-Program.aspx\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Clean Fuels Incentive Program<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (CFIP). <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Collectively, these awards have the potential to leverage over $10 million in fleet investment.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The award recipients represent both large and small fleet operators that deploy a variety of alternative fuels, including electric, propane and natural gas, and operate in multiple vehicle segments across the state. Notable CFIP FY22 award recipients include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>UPS:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> $500,000 to purchase and deploy 50 compressed natural gas (CNG) Class 6 step-vans that will operate on last-mile delivery routes within an approximately 100-mile radius of a depot location in Laurel.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/><br \/><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Highland Electric Fleets:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> $320,000 to purchase and deploy four electric school buses on behalf of Baltimore City Public Schools (BCPS), the first phase of what is expected to be a 3-year pilot deployment by BCPS.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/><br \/><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Swann Transportation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">: $80,000 to purchase and deploy 1 electric school bus in White Plains.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cFostering energy independence through clean transportation fuels such as electricity, natural gas and propane is essential to our national security and response to climate change,\u201d said MEA Director Dr. Mary Beth Tung. \u201cClean fuels provide a broad range of benefits, including enhancing environmental justice, as many of these fleets serve areas of the state that may be disproportionately impacted by emissions.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The CFIP supports Governor Hogan\u2019s commitment to address climate change through the deployment of alternative fuel and zero emission vehicles, including in the fleet sector.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This program received high demand from fleet operators planning to purchase non-petroleum alternative fuel vehicles to improve energy independence, and to reduce operation costs and emissions. Applications must be received no later than 5 P.M. EDT, <\/span><b>Wednesday, April 20, 2022<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Award decisions are expected in May 2022, with grant agreements executed by early June.
