2020 Maryland Smart Energy Communities Awards<\/h3>\n

The\u00a0Maryland Energy Administration (MEA)<\/a>\u00a0is proud to announce over $750,000 in funding for 19\u00a0Maryland Smart Energy Community\u00a0<\/a>grantees in Fiscal Year 2020 (FY20). Distributed across the state, these energy projects stimulate economic growth and are estimated to yield an annual energy cost savings of $403,000. The estimated annual energy savings is 3,127,713 kilowatt-hours (kWh) which is enough energy to power 260 Maryland homes, read more here<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

Natural Gas is a Cleaner Cost-Effective Energy Source Fueling Economic Growth in Maryland<\/h3>\n

The first set of grant winners for the\u00a0Maryland Energy Infrastructure Program (MEIP)<\/a>, Anchor Customer program have been awarded $1.5 million dollars. Awards went to a\u00a0commercial organization in Baltimore City and two state government organizations in Somerset County.\u00a0The expansion of natural gas means more local jobs which Governor Hogan cited as a priority for the state. Based on a 2016 study by Towson University, the construction of this energy project will support over 700 jobs on Maryland\u2019s Lower Eastern Shore alone.
