A with Chidinma Emenike"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_3825\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/mea\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2020\/02\/CE20.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3825\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3825\" src=\"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/mea\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2020\/02\/CE20-300x172.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"172\" srcset=\"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/mea\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2020\/02\/CE20-300x172.png 300w, https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/mea\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2020\/02\/CE20-1024x589.png 1024w, https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/mea\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2020\/02\/CE20-768x442.png 768w, https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/mea\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2020\/02\/CE20.png 1087w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3825\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Chidinma Emenike helped MEA celebrate International Woman&#8217;s Day on March 8, 2020<\/p><\/div>\n<p><em><b>Name:<\/b><\/em> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Chidinma Emenike<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><b>When did you start working with MEA?<\/b><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> December 2019<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><b>Where did you work before MEA?<\/b><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Delaware\u2019s Division of Climate, Coastal, and Energy, under the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC).\u00a0 My main responsibility was to help run the Green Energy Program, which offers financial incentives to Delmarva Power customers (in Delaware) who install renewable energy technologies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><b>Describe the work you do now?<\/b><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">I help administer the Clean Energy Rebate Programs for both <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/energy.maryland.gov\/residential\/Pages\/incentives\/CleanEnergyGrants.aspx\"><b>residential <\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/energy.maryland.gov\/business\/Pages\/incentives\/cleanenergygrants.aspx\"><b>commercial<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, which entails answering questions about renewable energy from ratepayers, tracking the progress of applications, and processing projects for payment.\u00a0 I also help out with other programs, including the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/energy.maryland.gov\/business\/Pages\/EnergyStorage.aspx\"><b>Maryland Energy Storage Tax Credit <\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/energy.maryland.gov\/govt\/Pages\/CleanEnergyLMI.aspx\"><b>Clean Energy Communities Low-to-Moderate Income Program<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><b>What is the most challenging part of your job?<\/b><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The energy industry is changing so quickly that it can be hard to keep up.\u00a0 With various technologies inching closer to commercial viability, and new and innovative projects like bifacial panels which are double sided solar panels or\u00a0 net-zero buildings like the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/mea\/2016\/12\/16\/mea-road-trip-to-marylands-1st-net-zero-energy-school-wilde-lake-middle-school\/\"><b>first net-zero school in Maryland that MEA help fund<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, coming online seemingly every week, it can be tough to keep track of everything.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_667\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/mea\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2016\/12\/20161207_133050-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-667\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-667\" src=\"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/mea\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2016\/12\/20161207_133050-1-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/mea\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2016\/12\/20161207_133050-1-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/mea\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2016\/12\/20161207_133050-1-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/mea\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2016\/12\/20161207_133050-1-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-667\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Take a look at the state&#8217;s first net-zero school in Howard County <a href=\"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/mea\/2016\/12\/16\/mea-road-trip-to-marylands-1st-net-zero-energy-school-wilde-lake-middle-school\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>here<\/strong><\/a>. MEA provided $2.77 million dollars towards the design and construct of this replacement school.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><b>Do you have a favorite energy generation source?<\/b><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Clich\u00e9 as it is, I find solar particularly appealing, mainly because of its ability to pair with other technologies (e.g. solar and wind).\u00a0 I like that various technologies can complement each other so well.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><b>What should the public know about MEA?<\/b><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Customer service is our top priority.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><b>Tell us what you find most inspiring about the energy sector or your work:<\/b><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">I like that my work makes a measurable difference in people\u2019s lives like money saved on utility bills, tons of avoided carbon emissions.\u00a0 It can be hard to get people to support an idea when the benefits are not quantifiable, but keeping track of metrics that demonstrate the positive impact renewable energy has on society. MEA is fortunate to have an incredibly motivated and professionally driven team which provides us with a preputial source of candidates for these awards. <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Chidinma recieved her virtual trophy during the MEA all staff meeting on May 6, 2020.
