{"id":1924,"date":"2018-08-03T08:15:36","date_gmt":"2018-08-03T12:15:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/mea\/?p=1924"},"modified":"2022-03-21T09:06:49","modified_gmt":"2022-03-21T13:06:49","slug":"maryland-announces-draft-spending-plan-for-volkswagen-settlement-funds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/mea\/2018\/08\/03\/maryland-announces-draft-spending-plan-for-volkswagen-settlement-funds\/","title":{"rendered":"Maryland Announces Draft Spending Plan for Volkswagen Settlement Funds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE<br \/>\nContact:\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:jahmai.sharp-moore@maryland.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jahmai Sharp-Moore<\/a> | 443-694-3651<\/p>\n<p>Maryland proposes to invest $75.7 million share of federal court settlement in Volkswagen \u201cdefeat devices\u201d case in clean car technology; public comment period open, listening sessions to be announced<\/p>\n<p><strong>BALTIMORE, MD\u00a0\u2013\u00a0<\/strong>The Maryland Department of the Environment, in conjunction with the Maryland Energy Administration and the Maryland Department of Transportation, has developed a draft spending plan that would invest tens of millions of dollars in settlement money from the Volkswagen \u201cdefeat devices\u201d case toward the deployment of electric vehicle charging infrastructure and the replacement of old, dirty diesel engines with clean diesel engines and other strategies to help improve air quality.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaryland is proud to be a national leader in protecting our environment and promoting cleaner air and water,\u201d said Governor Larry Hogan. \u201cThis comprehensive plan is further proof of our commitment to leveraging 21st century technology to preserve our natural resources for generations to come.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaryland Energy Administration\u2019s transportation programs have helped to displace more than 10 million gallons of petroleum over the past four years,\u201d said Maryland Energy Administration Director Mary Beth Tung. \u201cI am confident this plan, will lead to increased usage of EV and other alternative fuel vehicles.
