New stoves produce almost no smoke, minimal ash, and require less fuel. Stoves must meet the particulate requirement AND have a published efficiency rating. Emission and particulate standards for the state of Maryland are more restrictive than the Federal standards. Be sure to know the grant requirements before you buy.<\/p>\n<p>Permits are required for new and replacement wood and pellet stoves. All grant applications must obtain any relevant permits before submitting an application. \u00a0For a list of Maryland county permitting offices, click <a href=\"http:\/\/energy.maryland.gov\/residential\/Documents\/Wood%20and%20Pellet%20Stove%20County%20Permit%20Office%20List.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.
