(Bel Air, MD)\u00a0<\/strong>– With heat index values expected to reach nearly 105 degrees\u00a0during the Fourth of July holiday, the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company and Abingdon\u00a0Volunteer Fire Company will open their doors to the public to assist Harford County\u00a0Government serving as cooling stations for those needing brief relief from the heat.<\/p>\n

Both the Bel Air and Abingdon Volunteer Fire Company\u2019s will be open to the\u00a0public from 10:00 a.m. \u2013 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 4.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe appreciate the support of our volunteer fire service serving as a\u00a0temporary shelter for those who may need of relief from the heat,\u201d County Executive\u00a0David R. Craig stated. \u201cWith several heat-related deaths already recorded the\u00a0past several days in Maryland, we strongly encourage our citizens to seek relief\u00a0anywhere they can find air conditioning, including shopping malls, theaters or the two\u00a0designated \u201cCooling Centers\u201d, Craig remarked.<\/p>\n

The Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company is located at 109 South Hickory Avenue\u00a0in Bel Air. The Abingdon Volunteer Fire Company is located at 3306 Abingdon\u00a0Road in Abingdon.<\/p>\n

The Harford County Health Department recommends that individuals at\u00a0special risk should stay indoors on particularly hot and humid days, especially when\u00a0there is an air pollution alert in effect. People without fans or air conditions should\u00a0go to places such as shopping malls, movie theaters or designated cooling centers.<\/p>\n
