REISTERSTOWN, Md. (July 26 2018)<\/b>\u00a0\u2014\u00a0Governor<\/span>\u00a0Larry Hogan announced today that the U.S.\u00a0Small<\/span>\u00a0Business<\/span>\u00a0Administration<\/span>\u00a0(SBA) has approved his\u00a0request<\/span>\u00a0for a\u00a0physical\u00a0<\/span>disaster<\/span>\u00a0declaration<\/span><\/a>\u00a0for\u00a0Baltimore<\/span>\u00a0City<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0Howard<\/span>\u00a0County<\/span>\u00a0following severe storms and flash flooding on\u00a0May 27<\/span><\/span>. This\u00a0declaration<\/span>\u00a0allows affected businesses, homeowners, and renters whose properties had damages and meet certain criteria to apply for low-interest loans for repairs. People who live in contiguous counties, including Anne Arundel,\u00a0Baltimore<\/span>, Carroll, Montgomery, and Prince George\u2019s, are also eligible to apply.<\/p>\n \u201cMany businesses, homeowners, and residents have been profoundly affected by the flooding that occurred in May,\u201d said\u00a0Governor<\/span>\u00a0Hogan. \u201cThese loans are a key component of the recovery process and an important part of the rebuilding process. Our\u00a0administration<\/span>\u00a0will continue to support these communities to ensure that recovery and we thank our federal partners for their swift approval of our\u00a0request<\/span>.\u201d<\/p>\n Baltimore<\/span>\u00a0City<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0Howard<\/span>\u00a0County<\/span>\u00a0requested a SBA damage assessment through the Maryland Emergency Management Agency\u00a0(MEMA<\/a>).\u00a0Preliminary damage assessments were recently completed and validated that both jurisdictions were eligible for a SBA\u00a0physical<\/span>\u00a0disaster<\/span>\u00a0declaration<\/span>. The SBA will work with the local jurisdictions and MEMA to establish\u00a0disaster<\/span>\u00a0loan outreach centers and other methods for residents to apply in the coming days.<\/p>\n Earlier this month, the\u00a0SBA approved\u00a0Governor<\/span>\u00a0Hogan\u2019s\u00a0request<\/span><\/a>\u00a0for a\u00a0physical<\/span>\u00a0disaster<\/span>declaration<\/span>\u00a0for Frederick\u00a0County<\/span>\u00a0following flooding\u00a0May 15-20<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n The SBA provides low-interest\u00a0disaster<\/span>\u00a0loans to businesses of all sizes, private non-profit organizations, homeowners, and renters.
