Students take danger preparation in stride

Silent middle schoolers lined the halls Wednesday morning at Benjamin Stoddert Middle School in Waldorf.
As unlikely as that sounds for an age group not known for solemnity, the school’s hallways and interior walls were lined with students sitting quietly, some covering their heads in anticipation of a potential tornado.
At 9:45 a.m., Principal Robert Babiak came across the public address system saying the National Weather Service had issued a tornado warning and asked that staff escort students to designated severe weather areas.
