BIKE TO WORK DAY 2014<\/h1>\n

Biking to work is a great way to reduce air and water pollution and get some exercise. MDE is again participating in Bike to Work Day \u2013 and we urge you to join in as well.<\/p>\n

Workplaces throughout Maryland will be encouraging their employees to leave their cars behind this Friday, May 16, and pedal to work instead.<\/p>\n

\"Bike_to_Work\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Bike to Work Day is celebrated across the United States each May \u2013 which is Clean Commute Month.<\/a> Late spring marks the start of the ground-level ozone season, when we hear about Code Red and Orange Ozone Action Days. On those days, the air is dangerous to breathe \u2013 especially for the young and for the elderly. Emissions from single occupancy vehicles contribute significantly to our region’s sometimes-dangerous ozone levels. Bike commuting can improve the air we breathe. It can also reduce emissions of the greenhouse gases that cause climate change.<\/p>\n

\u201cReplacing the car with alternative forms of transportation helps to reduce your carbon footprint, conserve energy, save money, reduce air pollution, get exercise and set an example for others,\u201d MDE Secretary Robert M. Summers said while encouraging MDE employees to participate in Bike to Work Day.<\/p>\n

Baltimore City Hall and in Baltimore, Annapolis, White Marsh, Towson, Bel Air, Columbia, Westminster\u00a0 and other locations. MDE employees are again joining in. They will ride in convoys from rallies in Catonsville and at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore to MDE\u2019s Montgomery Park headquarters on Washington Boulevard.<\/p>\n
