The initiative brings together state agencies, local governments, businesses and citizens to revitalize communities, improve transit, create green jobs, address climate change, conserve energy, preserve land and restore the Chesapeake Bay.<\/p>\n<p>Past\u00a0Leadership Awards have gone to British American Auto Care, Inc., Coca Cola Refreshments, CSX, Goodwill Industries International, GM Baltimore Transmission Plant, JBS International, La Prima Food Group, Life Technologies, Lucy School, NASA\/Goddard Space Flight Center, National Aquarium, Oakland Nursing &amp; Rehabilitation Center, Salisbury University, Sims Recycling Solutions St. Mary\u2019s County Public Schools, St. Mary&#8217;s College of Maryland, Union Hospital of Cecil County, University of Maryland, College Park, and Staples.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CORE FACTS:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Maryland Green Registry is now accepting applications for its annual Leadership Awards. Applications will be accepted through\u00a0Wednesday, April 30, 2014.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Applicants must be members of the Maryland Green Registry<\/strong>. To join this\u00a0<strong>free<\/strong>\u00a0program, Maryland organizations should visit the\u00a0<a title=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mde.state.md.us\/marylandgreen\/Pages\/JoinHere.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Maryland Green Registry website<\/a>\u00a0and complete a best practices profile.<\/li>\n<li>Maryland Green Registry Leadership Award Winners represent a variety of facility types and sizes, but all have several key factors in common that contribute to their success: an organization-wide commitment to environmental performance, a green team that meets on a regular basis, annual environmental goals and measurement of results.<\/li>\n<li>The 2014 Maryland Green Registry Leadership Award winners will be announced at the annual awards and membership event on\u00a0June 11, 2014, 5:00 \u2013 8:00 p.m., at Courtyard Marriott Chevy Chase, 2<sup>nd<\/sup>\u00a0floor outdoor terrace.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>QUOTES:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cMore than 400 organizations, ranging from large manufacturers to small businesses and nonprofits, are members of the Maryland Green Registry.
