{"id":2983,"date":"2019-09-10T13:27:14","date_gmt":"2019-09-10T17:27:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/mde\/?p=2983"},"modified":"2019-09-10T13:27:14","modified_gmt":"2019-09-10T17:27:14","slug":"department-of-the-environment-participates-in-day-to-serve-month-events","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/mde\/2019\/09\/10\/department-of-the-environment-participates-in-day-to-serve-month-events\/","title":{"rendered":"Department of the Environment participates in Day to Serve month events"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>DEPARTMENT OF THE ENVIRONMENT PARTICIPATES IN DAY TO SERVE MONTH EVENTS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Three cleanups scheduled in South Baltimore<\/em><\/p>\n<p>BALTIMORE (September 10, 2019) &#8211; Maryland Department of the Environment workers will be participating in three cleanup events in Baltimore City as part of the Hogan administration\u2019s Day to Serve month, which takes place Sept. 11 through October 10.<\/p>\n<p>Each of the cleanup events \u2013 which will be held in Carroll Park, Pigtown and Masonville Cove near Environment\u2019s Montgomery Park offices in southwest Baltimore \u2013 support the agency\u2019s new awareness campaign preventing litter and increasing recycling.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCleaner streets, parks and waterways in our hometown of Baltimore help keep Maryland beautiful,\u201d Environment Secretary Ben Grumbles said.<\/p>\n<p>The cleanup of the Carroll Park community garden and surrounding area \u2013 in collaboration with the nonprofit group Friends of Carroll Park \u2013 will be held Wednesday, Sept. 11 from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. The area to be cleaned up is located on the west side of the park near Monroe Street.<\/p>\n<p>On Sept. 18 from 12:30 p.m. until 4 p.m., Environment will partner with the Pigtown Main Street organization to clean trash and recyclables in preparation for the 18th annual Pigtown Festival on Sept. 21. Volunteers also will be passing out recycling information to Pigtown residents.<\/p>\n<p>The last event will be held from 12:30 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at Masonville Cove Environmental Education Center, located at 1000 Frankfurst Ave. This project will include a shoreline and property cleanup along the Patapsco River at Masonville Cove.
