\nMaryland\u2019s First Lady Yumi Hogan to open Department of the Environment\u2019s 17th annual \u201cRethink Recycling\u201d sculpture contest <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Maryland high school students to display their unique recycled art<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

BALTIMORE, MD (November 29, 2018<\/span><\/span>) \u2013\u00a0<\/strong>Maryland\u2019s First Lady Yumi Hogan will deliver opening remarks to high school artists from across the state\u00a0 on Friday at the Department of the Environment\u2019s 17th annual \u201cRethink Recycling\u201d Sculpture Contest in Baltimore. Sponsors of the event are Exelon;\u00a0 Blick Art Materials; National Museum of Civil War Medicine; American Cleaning Institute; Maryland Recycling Network; the Maryland, Delaware, D.C. Beverage Association;\u00a0 National Aquarium and Waste Management, Inc.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

WHO:<\/strong>\u00a0 Guest judges for the contest will be John Lewis, an instructor at Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA); \u00a0Jenna Rayman, a former Rethink Recycling contest winner; Kasey Jones, an interdisciplinary recycled materials artist and current MICA student; and Hilary Miller, former director of Environment\u2019s\u00a0 Land and Materials Administration.<\/p>\n

WHEN:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0Friday,<\/strong>\u00a0November 30, 2018<\/strong>,\u00a0from\u00a010 a.m. until 1 p.m.<\/strong>\u00a0Sculptures will be on display beginning at\u00a010 a.m. Environment Secretary Ben Grumbles will open the program and introduce Maryland First Lady Yumi Hogan, who will give brief remarks. Judging will begin immediately after her remarks\u00a0and end at\u00a0noon. The awards presentation will begin at 12:30 p.m.<\/p>\n

WHAT:\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0Since 2001, MDE has celebrated\u00a0America Recycles Day<\/a>\u00a0by hosting the annual\u00a0\u201cRethink Recycling\u201d Sculpture Contest<\/a>. High school students from across Maryland are invited to participate by creating sculptures made of recycled and reusable materials. Previous contestants have created innovative and artistic sculptures using records, plastic bags, old shoes, playing cards, computer parts and more.<\/p>\n
