Board of Public Works approves funding for clean water and the Chesapeake Bay<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Funding will improve wastewater infrastructure, reduce pollution<\/em><\/p>\n

BALTIMORE, MD (May 2, 2018<\/span><\/span>) \u2013\u00a0<\/strong>The Maryland Board of Public Works approved more than $11 million in funding today to reduce pollution and improve water quality. The Board is composed of Governor Larry Hogan, Treasurer Nancy K. Kopp and Comptroller Peter Franchot.<\/p>\n

“These are smart investments to protect public health and prevent water pollution in Maryland communities like Williamsport and Baltimore City and the Chesapeake Bay,\u201d said Maryland Environment Secretary Ben Grumbles. \u201cThese funds support Baltimore City\u2019s work to stop sewage overflows to meet the requirements of our consent decree. We will continue to push aggressively for environmental progress and public accountability while looking for ways to help provide financial assistance.\u201d<\/p>\n

The following projects were approved today:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Baltimore City High Level Sewershed Sewer improvements project \u2014 Baltimore City<\/strong><\/p>\n

An $11,258,044 Water Quality State Revolving Loan Fund loan to Baltimore City will help fund fund the planning, design and construction of improvements to Baltimore City\u2019s sanitary sewer infrastructure. The project is a continuation of Baltimore City\u2019s efforts to prevent sanitary sewer overflows as required by a consent decree initiated by the Maryland Department of the Environment and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Lockwood Road Pump Station Rehabilitation Project \u2014 Washington County<\/strong><\/p>\n

A $25,000 Chesapeake Bay Water Quality supplemental assistance program grant to the Town of Williamsport will fund the planning for the Lockwood Road Pump Station Rehabilitation Project. The project includes improvements to prevent sanitary sewage overflows and ensure that residential sewage is carried to a wastewater treatment plant.<\/p>\n
