Jay Apperson (410) 537-3003 Board of Public Works approves funding for clean water and the Chesapeake Bay<\/strong><\/p>\n Grants will reduce pollution, improve water quality<\/em><\/p>\n BALTIMORE, MD (<\/strong>November 4, 2015<\/span><\/span><\/strong>) \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0The Maryland Board of Public Works approved $2 million in funding today to upgrade a wastewater treatment plant and improve a sewage system. The Board is composed of Governor Larry Hogan, Treasurer Nancy K. Kopp and Comptroller Peter Franchot.<\/p>\n \u201cThese are smart investments and great news for Maryland communities and citizens of the Chesapeake Bay region. The Maryland Department of the Environment thanks Governor Hogan for his leadership on this environmental priority,\u201d said Maryland Secretary of the Environment Ben Grumbles. \u201cUpgrading sewage systems and treatment plants \u2013 and providing relief to rate payers when appropriate \u2013 will help us to green and grow the state\u2019s economy and lead in the race to protect and restore Chesapeake Bay watersheds.\u201d<\/p>\n The following projects were approved today:<\/p>\n New Windsor Wastewater Treatment Plant \u2013 Carroll County<\/strong><\/p>\n A $1 million Chesapeake Bay Water Quality Project Funds Supplemental Assistance Program grant to the Town of New Windsor will be used by the Town to pay off a portion of the principal on a loan from the Department of the Environment\u2019s Water Quality Financing Administration. The loan, whose current principal balance is $1,518,644, is to help pay for the upgrade of the New Windsor Wastewater Treatment Plant. That upgrade was substantially completed in 2011. The cost of the upgrade placed a significant cost burden on the sewer system users.<\/p>\n Braddock Run Sewer Phase IV: Wrights Crossing Pump Station Improvements \u2013 Allegany County<\/strong><\/p>\n A $1 million Chesapeake Bay Water Quality Project Funds Supplemental Assistance Program grant to Allegany County will help pay for the planning, design and construction of improvements to the Wrights Crossing Pump Station, the fourth phase in the Braddock Run sewer project.
