Board of Public Works approves funding for clean water and the Chesapeake Bay<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Grants and loans will reduce pollution, improve drinking water infrastructure<\/em><\/p>\n

Baltimore, MD (September 16, 2015<\/span><\/span>) \u2013 \u00a0<\/strong>The Maryland Board of Public Works approved more than $1 million in grants and loans today to reduce water pollution and provide reliable\u00a0drinking water. The Board is composed of Governor Larry Hogan, Treasurer Nancy K. Kopp and Comptroller Peter Franchot.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese are smart investments and great news for Maryland communities and citizens of the Chesapeake Bay region. The Maryland Department of the Environment thanks Governor Hogan for his leadership on this environmental priority,\u201d said MDE Secretary Ben Grumbles. \u201cEnsuring reliable drinking water in Wicomico County and improving a sewage system in Allegany County will help us to green and grow the state\u2019s economy and lead in the race to protect and restore Chesapeake Bay watersheds.\u201d<\/p>\n

The following projects were approved today:<\/p>\n

Bedford Road Sanitary Sewer Rehab Phase 4 project \u2013 Allegany County<\/strong><\/p>\n

Funding of $1,050,000 (an $875,000 Chesapeake Bay Water Quality Project Funds Supplemental Assistance Program grant and a $175,000 Water Quality State Revolving Loan Fund loan) to Allegany County will help fund the Bedford Road Sanitary Sewer Rehab Phase 4 project. The project will rehabilitate the existing Bedford Road sanitary sewer system by repairing and replacing manholes and sewer lines and upgrading an existing wastewater pumping station.<\/p>\n

Pittsville Water Treatment Plant Phase 3 project \u2013 Wicomico County<\/strong><\/p>\n

Water Supply Financial Assistance grants totaling $163,000 to the Town of Pittsville will help fund an upgrade of the Pittsville Water Treatment Plant. This project, the third phase of the upgrade, includes a major rehabilitation of a 200,000-gallon water storage tower, the rehabilitation, cleaning and testing of two existing wells, well pump replacement and other system improvements to restore water capacity and ensure adequate amounts of safe drinking water are\u00a0supplied to the Town.<\/p>\n
